Sean Maloughney: The Cracks Are Starting To Show + Puljujarvi and Yamamoto Are Sent Down Some thoughts regarding some of the issues plaguing the Edmonton Oilers. Also Puljujarvi and Yamamoto have finally been sent down.

It's about time they were sent down. Having a strong AHL season does so much for development. There are currently, 9 players from the Calder Cup winning Marlies on the Leaf roster. I truly hope the Condors have the same success. And if you get the chance, go see an AHL game, the hockey is great and the beer and tickets are cheap.

To be fair to some fans there have been some of us screaming for these guys to be sent down so they can get minutes and perhaps actually grow their game and get better before they are ruined.....got no issues with waiting.....would rather do that then continuing to see young guys put into spots they aren’t clearly ready for

The last time I can remember an Oiler going through as much of a scoring drought as Lucic is right now was Anton Lander in Todd's first two years. The difference being 5mil in cap hit, Lander didn't get any PP time and he did something that was useful (PKing and faceoffs).

On an aside yet somewhat related note, I'd love to see Nelson be the guy to replace McLellan. It'd be a nice story.

Considering we just dropped two forwards to the AHL and we haven't called anyone up to replace them, now would be a good time to look at adding a depth guy from a team with too many forwards already. Change the look of the bottom-6 a bit and add an extra buffer to avoid calling one of the young guys up before they've had time to get into a groove.

I'd be asking about a guy like Verhaeghe outta Tampa's AHL team and maybe asking LA about a swap of Kassian for Lewis? Similar cap hit, Lewis gives us a different dimension and maybe Kassian can spark the Kings a bit.

Nuge- McDavid- Rattie
Rieder- Draisaitl- Chiasson
Verhaeghe- Strome- Caggiula
Lucic- Khaira- Lewis
Brodziak

In conjunction with a trade for a more proven scoring winger (Nyquist, Pearson, Toffoli, etc), we could set up our forward corps to be up-to-speed within a year or two... when Todd Nelson takes over again

Nuge- McDavid- Yamamoto/Rattie
Rieder- Draisaitl- Scoring F
Benson- LANDER- Marody/Strome
Khaira- Verhaeghe- Caggiula

Is Puju not in there due to being traded for said scoring F? The bottom 2 lines could certainly use improvement so I wouldn’t argue anything you just said.....I wonder if Stone would be an option for us

From a poster on another site:

"Jesse didn’t need time to develop into being an NHL player.

He was an average-ish NHL player at 18 and would have put up average points in average ice-time for an average amount of games.

The thing is, players who are NHL average at just-turned 18 are good players by 20 and beyond.

If they actually play lots of hockey between 18 and 20, that is.

Jesse is not a project player, and he wasn’t and isn’t a high-risk prospect.

I still see Pierre-Luc Dubois brought up sometimes. That player still doesn’t positively affect his unit’s shooting, and scores a material measure less at 5v5 with Panarin at 20 than Puljujarvi scored with Draisaitl at 19, and with McDavid at 18."

It would be the right thing to do. And he'd be a much better 3C than Strome, who could then assume 4C duties.

His potential is every bit a part of him as divinity is to Larsson.

Nyquist as an Oiler? Hells yes! Give me all Swedish sexiness.

Except Kronwall. He ain’t sexy. In fact I think he’s a closet Finn.

Bueno! We shouldn't be anywhere near the lottery by then anyway. If we are, then we deserve that kind of punishment.
